Abstract
Culturally, there is much tolerance of violence against women in the United States. The recent furor over the slow and inadequate response of the National Football League to players’ abuse of their intimate partners evidences the cultural diminishment of women and the tolerance of abuse of intimate partners. A particularly sad statistic that reflects the cultural tolerance of violence against girls is that, conservatively, one in five female teens report having experienced abuse in their relationships.
